Students who are parents and carers
The University offers a range of information and support for students who are themselves parents and carers.
Parent and carer networks
If you would like to get in touch with other student parents at the University to find out more about combining parenting with studying, you can join the Student Parent Network Facebook group.
The following websites also provide information for student parents about preparing for your studies and balancing work/life commitments:
We also have a list of useful links for carers.
Childcare
University nursery
The University day nursery accommodates children of students and staff between three months and five years of age. The nursery provides a caring environment where high-quality play and education are used to stimulate and encourage each child's intellectual, physical and emotional development.
Spaces are very limited. Visit the University day nursery website for further information, fees and an application form.
Local nurseries, childcare and toddler groups
Bristol City Council provides lists of local children's centres and nurseries. They also recommend a database for finding a childminder in the local area.
Visit the University day nursery website for further information, an application form and fees.
The Woodland House Nursery gives priority to University staff. Woodland House Nursery became affiliated to the University of Bristol in May 2015.
Schools
Bristol City Council's Children and Young People's Services provide a range of information on childcare and schools in the area.
After-school clubs and school holiday activities
Bristol City Council's website includes information on local holiday plays chemes and after-school clubs run by local schools and organisations.
Our Centre for Sports, Exercise and Health on campus also runs two week-long summer holiday playschemes.
Wellbeing and support
Our Students' Health Service offers a full NHS GP practice for staff and students. All families of students are welcome to register with the practice by completing the online form on the website.
The Students' Health Service also offers advice and support for carers, and provides a list of local organisations that can also offer support to student carers.
Further information about support for carers from external agencies is available from the NHS and Bristol City Council.
Pregnancy
The University is committed to supporting you appropriately through pregnancy and maternity/paternity, although the level of support that can be provided will very much depend on the nature and structure of your course of study, as well as your individual circumstances.
If you are a current student, you can speak to your personal tutor for guidance and support.
Funding and financial support
The University fees and funding site offers a wide range of funding opportunities and advice for students with children and other dependants. Further general funding opportunities are available through the search for funding.
