Fee status
For fees purposes, we classify students either as Home or Overseas.
How we decide your fee status
Classification is largely determined by your residency and we follow regulations set by the UK government:
- The Student Fees (Qualifying Courses and Persons) (England) Regulations 2007 mainly for undergraduate study;
- The Education (Fees and Awards) (England) Regulations 2007 for postgraduate study.
Find a summary of the regulations from the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA). UKCISA offers further advice and support for international students.
When you’ll find out your fee status
If you apply to Bristol, we’ll confirm your provisional fee status when we make you an offer, however we may query this later if we have reason to believe it may be subject to change.
If we need further information from you when we receive your application, we’ll ask you to complete a fee status questionnaire.
We are not able to make a decision on your fee status before an application but if you have queries about your fee status once you have applied, please email: choosebristol-ug@bristol.ac.uk (undergraduate) or choosebristol-pg@bristol.ac.uk (postgraduate).

Fees and funding for EU students from 2021/22
Fees for students starting in 2021/22 onwards
The UK Government has confirmed that students commencing their studies in the academic year 2021/22 will no longer automatically be eligible for home fee status. Fees for EU students will likely need to complete a fee status questionnaire to determine whether they are liable for home or overseas fees.
Fees for students starting in 2020/21 or earlier
If you are an EU student and started your course in 2020/21 or earlier:
- You will continue to pay the same fees as home students for the duration of your course.
- Existing rules around financial support and home fees will still apply.
